Helsinki Part II

img_8105b_new2

My trip to Finland seems so long ago, and yet not even three months have passed.  The general consensus of the fins is that visiting Helsinki, or any other part of the country during rainy and freezing November, is crazy, but I really enjoyed the city despite the harsh weather. My sister has been living in Helsinki for almost three years and the purpose of my trip was to spend time together. Cold, rain and wind were the perfect excuse for us to run inside and chat at any time. Saunas, museums, coffee shops, restaurants, libraries, churches, green houses, the public markets and even the tram 2&3 became our shelter. This city has a lot to offer indoors. Being outdoors wasn’t that bad either, but I do I need to thank modern fiber technology for keeping me warm. I probably would have been miserable without a warm rainproof, wind blocking jacket.

Here’s part II of my Helsinki trip visual diary. I’m sad I didn’t capture more of their indoors spaces, I was too distracted talking.

If you haven’t seen the first part yet, there are more images there: Helsinki in November.

New Year’s Reflection

timless-time-1

We’ve arrived! It’s 2017. The arduous twelve month journey through last year is over. This, is another year, a brand new one.

With the anticipation and excitement of a new beginning we reflect on what’s behind and gain strength for what’s ahead.

Some might have a clear windy road, others a foggy mountain to climb or even a tumultuous ocean to cross.

As we go, let’s remember: We are all going through our individual journey together.

Fast or slow, time won’t stop for us.

We ought to keep going.  And we need to do our best.

My usual modus operandi to photography goes this way: think ahead, sketch, write down, plan it out, gather, lay out…and then click.

While travelling, my creative process is completely different. The click comes much faster with no pre-production. The fast trigger gives me a sense of relief, even freedom, from a more structured and planned creation process. When the places visited are look like wonderland, the set dressing has been already done ages ago.

In October/ November I had the luck & the pleasure to visit Finland, Estonia and Russia. To release the anxiety that comes from vacation time, I carried my camera around and clicked on.

There’s something refreshing and empowering in creating in this more carefree way.

All ramblings aside, here’s a little piece of Helsinki as I saw and lived it. I’ll be doing this in parts because I have loads of pictures.

Enjoy the trip!
